ROBAUDI (Alcide, ill.) & GIRALDON (Adolphe, ill.) BOURGET (Paul). Pastels. Ten portraits of women. Paris, Conquet, 1895. 2 vol. in-8, illustrated with 11 watercolors by Robaudi, 35 watercolors by Giraldon and numerous plates added. Signed binding in half duck blue morocco with corners. Smooth back very decorated with gilding and red roses mosaic for the first volume, cover cons. Smooth back only titled and dated for the second (Carayon).
Edition of 200 copies on Japon, initialled by the publisher, and 8 offprints on white vellum. This copy is exceptional: it contains 2 original gouaches by Robaudi, unsigned and unrelated to the work, and several suites and refused plates described below. The first volume is occupied by the said work with a suite on japon of all the illustrations of Giraldon, 20 plates on japon in blue of the portraits of Robaudi, including refused portraits, and several proposed variants of the portraits, 2 portraits in black on vellum of the countess of Candale, 2 plates (in black and in color) on japon of the refused portrait of the signorita Rosario, 1 plate on japon in color of the refused portrait of the unknown woman as well as a print on Japon of the beginning of the first short story, having been used most probably for the prospectus. .
The second volume includes 180 plates including 4 ornaments of Giraldon printed on white paper and 176 plates on Japon of color decompositions.
The watercolors of Robaudi for the portraits are reproduced in copperplate by Chauvet and Hellé, printed in colors by Wittmann and retouched by the artist and the 35 watercolors of Giraldon for the ornaments are reproduced in relief by Ducourtioux and Huillard and printed typographically in colors by Chamerot and Renouard.
