Paul DUPRÉ-LAFON (1900-1971) FOR HERMÈS CIGARETTE & CIGAR BO - Lot 355
Paul DUPRÉ-LAFON (1900-1971) FOR HERMÈS CIGARETTE & CIGAR BOX circa 1930 Mixed cigarette & cigar box for Hermès by the famous decorator Paul Dupré-Lafon. An exceptional piece for its condition and rarity, it was produced by Hermès in the pre-war period (confirmed by Hermès), and was part of a desk collection with ashtray, desk pad and letter tray. The box is made of smooth dark-gray leather on the outside, with a beechwood sliding system on the inside. The opening system works properly. Signature on back in gilt "Hermès-Paris, 24 fbg St Honoré". 8.5 x 23.2 x 16.8 cm Paul Dupré-Lafon was a French decorator and designer, trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, then active in Paris. From 1929, he collaborated with Hermès (Paris) on furniture, luxury goods and accessories. His style is characterized by clean lines, the use of leather - often saddle-stitched - and noble materials (wood, chromed metal) in an Art-Deco / modernist spirit. This attention to detail, combined with impeccable craftsmanship, has won him a prestigious clientele and earned him the nickname "decorator to millionaires".
