GERMANY, Berlin - Lot 278
GERMANY, Berlin
Large, egg-shaped vase on an octagonal pedestal, featuring two coiled handles topped with a bird’s head against a gold background. On one side, a military commander, with several companions behind him, presents an oliphant to a noble lady in
medieval attire on the steps of her palace. On the other side, a ball scene depicting a dancing couple surrounded by the court. These scenes, set within two gold-edged medallions, stand out against a cream background embellished with stylized swans, trellises, and gold floral lambrequins. Gold braid and fillet on the pedestal. Marked in blue with a scepter. Chipping on the upper edge, damage at the handle mount, wear on the gold.
20th century, circa 1900.
H. 86 cm
(Two small chips on the rim, a chip at the support of each handle)
