CHINA, late 19th/early 20th century - Six-leaf lacquer screen decorated with a lively silk route. From left, a silk-weaving scene with a dignitary and his lady against a caravan background. The right-hand side features a city in the background and figures taking tea next to a dromedary. The border is decorated with stylized motifs and flowers. Faces and bodies enhanced with mother-of-pearl and bone. 183 x 40 cm for one leaf (Accidental lifting of the lacquer in places and some restorations, most of the faces restored).
